To assess my students after our solar system unit I created this activity that combined Spanish vocabulary with art.
Students received a basic outline of the solar system (sun, planets, orbit lines). I actually have 2 different copies in the document. On the projector I put up instructions in Spanish that told students what color to make certain planets or what things to draw on the paper. For example, "Draw 2 moons around Mars" or "Color Mercury orange". Students needed to remember vocabulary from the current unit as well as older vocabulary such as colors, numbers, and classroom commands like write, draw, and color.
If anyone finished the assignment early (which was not a huge issue), they had the opportunity to add some creative elements to their picture based on other words we'd learned such as alien, rocket, meteor, etc.
I cannot tell you how much the students LOVED this activity. I had students in other grades asking when they were going to get to do the solar system in Spanish!
