This is a great alternative to doing a brochure or model of the solar system. In this one book students get to showcase what they know about the planets and solar system objects, what they find interesting, and it also has places for them to show their creativity in a whole different way as well. This book has a place for them to create a crossword of their own design that their classmates can solve, using vocabulary from the chapter/unit. It also has pages for them to create their very own solar system comic strip where they can show off their humor and talent. The last great addition to this book is the reflection section at the end, where students can talk about what they learned, what they knew about already, what they are most interested in, what they would like to investigate further, and even what they would like to do differently on it. This is a great assignment for students from a wide range of grade levels, and is very customizeable and easily differentiated.
This activity comes with the detailed student instructions, and a two-page information table/graphic organizer to help students collect the information needed for the project.
This project is great to use with NASA's solar system lithograph set. Just look it up on their website, so much great information on a single page!
