I made this to help my second grade students remember the names and order of the planets from the sun, and to help them remember that the planets orbit the sun. After they cut out the "flower", they can write the names of the planets, and then, using photographs as a guide, they can color the planets of the solar system. When finished, they can fold each planet down, or open them up like a flower around the sun.
Update: I've begun printing this out and gluing it to a piece of yellow construction paper. That way, from the back, it looks like the Sun when fully opened. Also, if you put a metal brad through the center of the sun, button on the outside, this makes a great spinner. The kids can see the planets spinning around, or orbiting, the Sun.
