Solar System / Outer Space project on the iPad features QR codes for researching all 8 planets in our solar system, the sun, the moon, and the asteroid belt, plus graphic organizers, scripts and directions for using free apps to create a web on Popplet and a talking video on Chatterpix!

Easily integrate free iPad® mobile digital device apps into a solar system science unit or informational text / research unit.

Students will first research on the NASA website by scanning the QR code on one of the 11 research mats. While reading about their celestial body or planet and watching a short song, students will use the differentiated planning sheet to take notes. Students will then use their notes to create a script - several versions of the script pages are included so teachers can chose.

After researching and note-taking, students will use the app Popplet and step-by-step visual direction sheets to create a topic web with text and images from the iPad. Next students will use the app Chatterpix and included visual direction sheets to create a video making the planet or celestial body “talk!” The "Recording - Quiet Please" sign in the packet can be displayed when students record their videos. Students with longer videos can use the visual directions to easily combine videos with the Apple Clips App!

An included project checklist helps students stay organized.

Both the web and video will be stored on the camera roll for students to upload and share how you see fit.

Packet includes:
★ 11 Choices of QR research mat - each with 2 QR codes to direct students to both NASA website and an information song to gather information about the celestial body they chose. Mats are blackline so students can color, take a picture, and use their work in their project too!
★ Master list of all links in case your school blocks QR codes, ViewPure, or NASA for alternate sharing via Seesaw or Google Classroom.
★ 1 full color step-by-step direction sheet with visuals to help students save images to their camera roll from the web.
★ Planning sheet options for students to use to gather information about their planet or celestial body. Younger students may only fill out part of the planner or work with a partner to complete the research.
★ 8 versions of writing paper to write their scripts: 5 with “Fill-in-the-blank” sentences for writers that need more support, 1 with primary lines, and 1 with college ruled lines.
★ Full color step-by-step direction sheets with visuals to help students independently use all of the included apps from start to finish.
★ 2 rubrics that can be used to assess the finished project.
★ 1 recording sign for students to display
★ 1 Project Checklist for students to use to keep track of what they have completed and what they still need to do.
