There are two characterization/inference activities included in this product; both accompany Gary Paulsen's Civil War novel Soldier's Heart and help students make inferences and understand the main character, Charley.
The first worksheet is a character dialogue writing activity that can be used after reading chapter 3. It allows students to write questions and answer them from Charley's perspective, using information given in the novel as well as students' own inferences.
The second activity can be used as an inference/characterization practice at any point while reading Soldier's Heart. It provides an example of each of the four types of characterization (direct, words, actions, and other characters' reactions), and students are challenged to find their own examples of each and make a character inference from each quote about Charley.
There are many possible right answers, but for the second activity I have included a "key" with possible answers just for reference.
