Product Description
Looking for a fun way to get into the holiday spirit while reinforcing Solfege Syllables or pitches to your students? Build a friendly snowman using customizable solfege syllables! This activity provides a great visual representation of ascending and descending pitches. It also makes the connection to higher and lower sounds or ascending and descending pitches played on Orff instruments or resonator bells!

Lesson Suggestions:

*Choose a scale or set of tone syllables as your focus.
* Choose a song from the following page (or your own) to teach your students.
*Have students sing the song.
*Then, review with the students the scale, or solfege syllables that you are focusing on.
*Have students sing the song again, replacing specific words with the solfege syllables that you are teaching {Example: The first phrase in “I’m a Little Snowman” becomes replaced with “Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-Do”}

Constructing the Solfege Snowman:

Materials Needed:
*Solfege Snowballs (included)
*11 x 7 construction paper (I used white, but you can choose any color, or have students choose)
*Crayons, Markers, colored pencils, pencils
*Other decorating accessories
*Choose a scale or set of tone syllables as your focus.
*Pass out the solfege snowballs that corresponds to your lesson.
*Instruct students to cut out the snowballs.
*Students will construct and glue the snowman using the correct order of solfege syllables. This creates a visual representation for the students that corresponds with the aural solfege lesson. The order of the solfege syllables will match the size order of the snowman. (I Usually have them construct it, and then I check it to see if it’s correct before they glue)
*Decorate! Leave enough room at the top for the heading if you wish.

Snowball Scales and Syllables Included: (black and white, color)

*Diatonic (Major) (Do – Do’)
*Pentatonic (Do-Re-Mi-Sol-La)
*5 Tone Scale (Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol)
*3 Tone Scales (Do-Re-Mi) and (Do-Mi-Sol)
*2 Tone Scale (Sol-Mi)
