This free download includes:
• The Happy Primes
• A sample of the Solution Squad: Primer
helps students become more familiar with identifying prime numbers. This lesson was designed for grades 4-6, but can be used at any grade level if students have the skills to tackle it. It's a great activity to help assess your students’ ability and willingness to persevere in solving problems, and it’s especially useful at identifying students who think outside the box. It's also great to leave as a sub plan, as students can work on it independently.
A "happy" number is defined by the following process: Find the sum of the squares of the number’s digits, and repeat the process until the resulting number is 1 (where it will stay), or it loops endlessly in a cycle that does not include 1. Those numbers that end in 1 are happy numbers, while those numbers that do not end in 1 are called unhappy numbers. A Happy Prime is a happy number that is also a prime number.
This product also includes sample pages from the digital comic Solution Squad: Primer
. Solution Squad is a comic about a team of teenage heroes, each with a different math-based superpower. The team teaches mathematical concepts in a fun and accessible way while engaging students in the story. Join the Solution Squad and be part of the solution!
