This is a fun sorting activity to help students differentiate equations that can be solved from those that can't. There are three levels to this activity. Level 1 being the most challenging and includes multi-step equations, application of the distributive property, and multiple like terms. Level 2 includes multi-step equations and the distributive property, and Level 3 includes 2 step equations, the distributive property, and fewer equations. Other options include having students solve the equations that are able to be solved, or doing a journal entry comparing characteristics inherent in the equations that can and cannot be solved.
