Use Solve-Compare-Share! as a strategy to encourage mathematical discourse amongst your students. The foundation of this strategy is as follows: two students work together as a team. Each student must his or her first math “clue.” Then, the two students their solutions and their solving methods. They should find out immediately if they solved correctly or not as both clues should result in the same answer! Teams should then continue to solve any remaining clues, being sure to check each one PRIOR to solving the next clue.
This Solve-Compare-Share! set includes (1) Mini Case with 3 clues to solve, (1) Minor Case with 5 clues to solve, and (1) Major Case with 10 clues to solve. All clues require students to solve for a sum, given 2 two-digit numbers.
A Mini Case is ideal for Morning Work, while a Minor Case makes a great Learning Station, and a Major Case works well for review at the end of a unit!
Answer key, options for differentiation, and student handouts are included.
