This item, Solving Systems of Linear Equations by Elimination – Relay Race, is an activity where students work collaboratively to complete 4 problems of varying difficulty. There are a total of 32 problems, for up to 8 groups and 4 problems per group. Groups will solve each system by elimination, each student will complete their own problem, one each student does so then the next student in their group begins the next problem. First group to complete all 4 problems wins! Although this is designed for a relay race, you can use the problem set in a variety of ways: practice, scavenger hunt, task cards, assessment, etc. My students love relay races and it gets really competitive. It’s a nice way to break apart from worksheets and practicing via textbook. This activity and topic is for students in Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, or Algebra 2.
The difficulty are as follows: (1) Green - Easy- Adding Equations, (2) Yellow - Easy/Medium - Subtracting Equations, (3) Blue - Medium/Hard - Multiply One Equation, & (4) Orange - Hard - Multiply Both Equations.
