This lesson is meant to be used as guided notes for an entire class. Students begin by learning the difference between evaluating an expression and solving an equation. Then they are introduced to the concept of inverse operations and begin slowly solving some basic equations. Instead of just learning HOW to perform operations on both sides of an equation, they learn WHY they are doing them. On the second half of the guided notes, common mistakes are addressed (variable on right side, fractions, negatives, etc.). The notes end with a word problem that needs to be translated and solved.
The 2 assessments are based off of the guided notes.
