Allow your students to practice solving absolute value inequalities through a fun, bingo-based activity. Solving absolute value inequalities, graphing the solution set, and writing an equality from a given solution set are all included in this high-engagement activity. Also included are a couple no solution and infinite solutions answers to keep students on their toes and thinking about what an absolute value symbol really means!
Students really do love the spider theme, speaking from first-hand experience. At first there may be a few "ew, spiders?!" comments (which add to the fun of the experience), but after students realize that they can squish the spiders, they quickly get on board and even argue over who gets to pick/squish next! It's simply too hard to resit wanting to squish the spiders. Be warned, this game may get intense.
*2 versions of the Bingo Activity (one with moving spiders that "crawl" around the screen, and one with stationary spiders).
*44 unique bingo cards
44 bingo cards are included for those of you who happen to have large classes. I know how frustrating it can be to try to find activities that work for even the largest of classes, so I made sure that there are plenty of bingo cards to go 'round.
Students are engaged, and love the activity! Bingo games are a great way to sneak in 24 practice problems without anyone minding.
This activity works on SMART Boards (or similar technology), as well as being projected from a computer.
If you do
happen to have SMART Board-esque technology in your classroom, you can throw a Koosh ball or a Splat ball at the screen to select a spider and show a problem. Be warned: lots of laughter while learning will occur!
