In this unit students will learn how to use graphs to solve different types of equations and inequalities. They will start by sketching quadratic graphs, finding key points on those graphs and using them to solve quadratic equations. They will then move on to cubics and will learn how to expand three linear expressions, and plot a cubic graph given as the product of three linear expressions. Students will then estimate solutions to simultaneous equations (including where one is non-linear) by plotting graphs before representing solution sets to inequalities on a graph and using sketches of quadratic graphs to solve quadratic inequalities.
