Description

There are two linear equation activities in this product. In the concept-building worksheet, students discover how to solve equations with one solution, infinite solutions (all real numbers), or no solution. Students also explain the difference between no solution and x=0. In the card sort, students are given 24 equation cards. They sort into four categories: all real numbers, no solution, x=0, and other. Students focus on looking for patterns in this activity.

This product is part of the Discovery-Based Worksheet Series. Discovery-Based Worksheets have been specially designed to engage students in learning that moves beyond traditional skills practice. Students will develop a deeper understanding of the big idea and will make connections between concepts. These worksheets make a great introduction to a new topic or summary at the end of a lesson or unit. Try one today!

Solve linear equations in one variable.
Give examples of linear equations in one variable with one solution, infinitely many solutions, or no solutions. Show which of these possibilities is the case by successively transforming the given equation into simpler forms, until an equivalent equation of the form 𝘹 = 𝘢, 𝘢 = 𝘢, or 𝘢 = 𝘣 results (where 𝘢 and 𝘣 are different numbers).
