Many algebra 1 students find solving literal equation a difficult skill to conquer. Instead of just making up equations with different variable, this set of 36 task cards include equations which are authentic equations used in math and science courses.

Some of the equations include:

• d = rt

• F = ma

• V = (1/3)Bh

• M = 2KE/V^2

• S = πr^2 + πrl

• a^2 + b^2 = c^2

• h = (1/2) gt^2 + vt + d and many more

Students are asked to solve for one of the variable. Two examples of how the task cards are worded are:

• Solve for a which represents one leg of a right triangle. a^2 + b^2 = c^2

• Solve for a which represents the acceleration of an object. F = ma

CCSS CED.A.4: Create equations that describe numbers or relationships—Rearrange formulas to highlight a quantity of interest, using the same reasoning as in solving equations.

Skills needed to rearrange equations are all taught in Algebra I.
