This is a lesson on introducing solving proportions. Students begin by understanding what makes a proportion and identifying proportions and then solving proportions for unknown values. Rational numbers are used within he problems and are also calculated as answers. If you are anything like me you may have given up on the old way of note taking (where students take half the class to write down one word problem) and resorted to printed templates. It saves class time, keeps the lesson precise and on topic, gives the teacher and student a great guide, and speeds up learning. This resource was made for those who use full sheets and hole punch and insert into 1/2 inch binders or pronged folders AND for those who use interactive composition notebooks and need the half sheet version. Both versions include the same content- a guided note section and a guided practice section. Also in this resource is an exit slip that I give immediately following the last guided practice problem and a full sheet of practice I give students to work on the next time we have a chance to practice. This could also be given as a homework assignment.
Teacher notes are provided along with an answer key so delivery should be smooth sailing. If you need something with writing and solving proportions from word problems stay tuned for that lesson and practice. If you simply need proportion practice including solving, writing, and scale click here. If you need a lesson on unit rates click here.
