This activity allows students to practice solving quadratic equations using factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula. It is best used as a review of the three methods.
Students are in groups of three. Each student is assigned to be A, B, or C. They each solve the same equation, but use a different method. They can then check with each other to be sure they arrived at the same answer. If they did not get the same answer, I ask students to trade papers and check each other’s work. Each student solves six equations - two of each solution method.
This is a great way for students to collaborate and practice solving quadratic equations. It provides students the opportunity to look for mistakes, a valuable skill.
