I created this flow chart when I saw my Geometry students struggling with knowing which formula they needed to use. They did not understand the difference between using the Pythagorean Theorem or sin, cos, or tan. I gave my students one that was partially filled in to help guide them through some of the questions. You could do that and fill in the rest together. Some of the places I left blank are to help them decide the differences and try to come up with some of the questions. You could also give them the one that is already filled in. You want to make sure to solve problems with them at the beginning so they see how to follow the chart. It cleared up a lot of confusion for my students and there were a lot of ahh ha moments! It helps them ask their own guided questions as to which steps or items do I look for next when solving the problem.
