This slideshow lesson was created for my Pre-Algebra and Algebra I classes, specifically geared towards the Big Ideas Common Core Curriculum series by Larson and Boswell standards 8.EE.8b and 8.EE.8c, and HSA-CED.A.3 and HAS-REI.C.6.
It is a presentation, providing definitions, examples, and practice problems. In this lesson, students will be able to define a system, review the graphing and substitution methods to solve a system, and then solve a system of linear equations using the elimination method.
The presentation has 19 slides. The slides are fully editable.
This PowerPoint lesson is unique because it can be used by the teacher for formal instruction, or can be used by the student as an introduction/review to the concept in a flipped classroom setting.
This presentation consists of 4 warm-up slides that introduce students to systems of linear equations (including the graphing and substitution method examples). It consists of 7 different examples of varying difficulties of systems solved using elimination (with addition, subtraction, and multiplication of one equation and both equations). There are 2 slides of Guided Practice examples (3 problems each) and additionally, there is a “Real-Life” word problem in which the system has to be written and then solved using the elimination method. The last slide in the presentation is an editable HW slide for you to assign HW.
