This is a great activity for students to practice solving systems of linear equations using the substitution method.
I designed this activity to help students practice looking for mistakes in mathematical work. I found that students would realize they were wrong or had made an error, but would not take the initiative to look for their mistake to fix it. They would just raise their hands and wait for me to do it for them. In this activity, students have to check other’s work to make sure they are correct before moving forward in a problem.
I usually copy each problem sheet on a different colored paper. This activity works best in groups of 4 students, but can be done with groups of 3. One set of solutions is included but problems can be solved in different ways.
