For students to fully understand an algebraic function, it is wise to have them demonstrate the function verbally, contextually, graphically, tabularly, and symbolically. This graphic organizer provides a space for the students to show each of the five (5) ways to describe a function.
This template also helps with problem solving.
The pentagonal shape was presented by Anita Bowman in a paper, "A Theoretical Framework for Research in Algebra: Modification of Janvier’s “Star” Model of Function Understanding" presented at AERA, April 1993.
I plan to provide problems and answers using this template, but I am so excited about the idea that I am posting it now as a template. I hope is serves you and your students well.
