This project is a great class activity and an authentic assessment on solving equations with variables on the same side. Through this project students will demonstrate their skills on simplifying polynomials by combing like terms on the same side of an equation and solving a 2- step equation after that.

Equations are enlarged, should be cut, possibly laminated and posted around the classroom. The students start their scavenger hunt with any problem to solve on their worksheets and then the correct answer will them to the next equation. There are 10 equations that students should solve.

It’s a fun activity for the students in the classroom. It gives them the chance to move around. It’s an easy assignment to grade. A key is provided for teachers.

Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable, including equations with coefficients represented by letters.
Understand that polynomials form a system analogous to the integers, namely, they are closed under the operations of addition, subtraction, and multiplication; add, subtract, and multiply polynomials.
Solve linear equations with rational number coefficients, including equations whose solutions require expanding expressions using the distributive property and collecting like terms.
Solve linear equations in one variable.
Apply properties of operations as strategies to add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients.
