Are your students struggling with the concept of solving for a given variable? I have created this worksheet in an effort to keep their interest and also give them built-in help. Each problem contains a current celebrity name (like Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber) that is scrambled up in the form of multi-step equation. The students inevitably can figure out the name before solving the problem so it serves as a clue as to which variable should be moved first. I have created many of these worksheets in the past using my actual class roster. (I would be glad to do the same for you if you want to send me a private message for your particular students.)
The students really seem to enjoy the change of pace and if they can solve these then it shows a true understanding of the concept of inverse operations.
**Tip: I usually include a celebrity photo on the worksheet from Google Images to make it more interesting but because I am selling this I used free clip-art instead. I would suggest swapping out the clip-art for a picture of one of the celebrities on the paper.
Check out my other lessons and activities. More worksheets on solving for variables will be uploaded shortly.
If you find this worksheet helpful I would appreciate any positive feedback you would be willing to leave.
