This worksheet can be used to teach Pre- Algebra or beginning Algebra students how to solve one step equations. Many students are tempted to solve equations mentally without showing their process. It is imperative that they know the correct way to write out their steps, even with one step equations, so that when they get to multistep equations, they are able to work them out on paper.
The beginning portion of the worksheet gives space for modeling the process of undoing what is happening to the variable.
At the end of the one step equations, are two word problems that will introduce the idea of how to write and equation to represent a situation and also then, give them more practice of solving equations.
