These are some very simple strategies that help those students that struggle with comprehending what they have read. Many times children become very good word callers but do not get meaning from the text. I have found that our Title One 3-5 students struggle many times with connecting the meaning and keeping it going from idea to idea. Out of 14 classrooms our only classroom above the district level on our predictive assessments used these ideas to increase reading comprehension in the classroom. Very simple yet very profound. Just put these ideas into what you do each week. Those using these ideas have the top reading scores in our school.
