The Somebody Wanted strategy is a research-based activity that can be used in a variety of formats. A great one is the Big Bookmark, which gives students at any level a framework to identify key elements. At the elementary level you can begin by creating a table and use it often in small or large groups until the students have a good idea of the elements of the summary. Large and small bookmarks are fun to do because students can add an illustration. That is a fun way to focus on the parts of the summary with a great visual of their own.
