Use this song to inspire budding writers to grab one word - and spin it to gold! All the while, they will be learning to be brave :-) Not bad for one set of lyrics.

Crumble was penned after one of my students shared a story with me. When Carolina said to me, "I nearly crumbled!" I immediately fell in love with her word. "That word is a song!" I insisted. The next day I had a new song. Not long after, Crumble became a giant hit at the local high school.

General eds teachers: Encourage your students to copy my lead: to choose a great word and see what they can do with it.

How to use this song in your classroom:

1. Put colorful words inside a hat on slips of paper. Every student picks a slip of paper out of the hat with their assigned word. Now that word needs to become a theme for a poem, song, rap, clever story of some sort.

2. Teach Crumble as an empowerment song. The chorus to pure fun! It's an anthem for any person-- any age!-- who is feeling shy and needs some support.

One teen boy approached me with "Won't you please write a "Crumble" song for boys? We get shy too!" I told him, "Well, just sing the chorus. Let the girls sing the verses." That worked :-)

3. Crumble is a great song to share with students singers who are looking for talent show material. It's spunky, positive, crowd pleasing, and parent pleasing! I discovered this fact after many parents sent me videos of their offspring singing Crumble at school talent shows. It's just that fun!

Music teachers: Use this song to illustrate verse, chorus, bridge song form. Use Crumble to help students learn to spot octaves and other intervals easily. This spunky song also helps young singers learn to sing throughout their ranges more fluidly without strain. It's a perfect learning song for any female singing student. Crumble is talent show perfect!

Crumble is also fun choice for any classroom playlist!
