PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

"Song of the Week" is a music-related spin on Kelly Gallagher's "Articles of the Week." Each lesson begins with a hook activity, after which students are given a set of song lyrics to annotate while they listen. Afterwards, they are given a set of close reading questions designed to have them dig a little deeper into the song. This lesson includes:
*Quickwrite hook activity ("What's In a Name?")
*Teacher Guide with recommended instructions and approach
*Five extension activities to take the lesson to the next level
*Two sets of song lyrics to Johnny Cash's "A Boy Named Sue" (one original, one clean/edited)
*Five close reading questions asking the students to explore the song's literary elements
*Answer key for close reading questions

"Song of the Week" is fun and engaging, and it helps students in the following ways:
*Assists in developing annotation strategies
*Forces students to draw inferences from challenging texts
*Exposes students to new songs, writing styles, ideas, and world views
*Hones students' knowledge of literary devices
*Gives students practice in evaluating and critiquing a work of art
