Song Boards are a great visual aid for ELL learners and increases all students' success of learning by combining auditory, visual, and kinesthetic modalites!
These songboards were created to teach students how to identify their colors and to color words. You can use them with or without the Frogstreet Press Colors CD. I like to teach the songs on smartboard and then have them color the colorpages to take home. Leave out only the color crayon that applies to the song so they do not get confused. I extend this lesson by asking each child to find and bring me a toy in the classroom that matches whatever color I've introduced for the day. They have to show it to me and verbally say the color of it. Only introduce one color a day. After I've taught all the colors, I print out all the songs colorpages and staple them together as one assignment. I place all the colors out and see who is able to discriminate and color the right ones. I've gotten so much postive feedback from parents about this lesson. Even if you have students that already can identify their colors, they now can learn to read them, spell them, and write them.
To use the song board, just print, laminate, and cut apart each board for your students. Let students point to the pictures as they sing along with the song. Once they have learned the words, add movement to the song. My Pre-School and ESL students love these!
