PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Looking for ways to teach about the Chinese New Year? Or wanting to teach about Chinese culture throughout the year? This comprehensive set was co-created with my friend Chiung Lien-Liu, and includes:

*Music notation for Guò nián (Chinese New Year chant) and Gong Xi (Chinese New Year song).

*Mp3's for Guò nián, both with an audible beat and without. If you are a music teacher teaching the chant, this will help you with pronunciation, and if you are a classroom teacher, you will be able to teach the chant even if you can't read music notation!

*You Tube links for the song "Gong Xi"

*Rhythm/ Pattern charts: Includes both symbols of Chinese New Year (such as dragon and lantern) and Chinese characters with English translation underneath. If you are a music teacher, you can use these to teach ta and ti-ti, tika-tika, and tika-ti, and if you are a classroom teacher, you can use these to practice patterns and syllables. Directions are included.

*Rhythm/ Pattern worksheets: Includes both symbols of Chinese New Year (such as dragon and lantern) and Chinese characters with English translation underneath. If you are a music teacher, you can use these to have students compose patterns with ta and ti-ti, tika-tika, and tika-ti, and if you are a classroom teacher, you can use these to practice patterns and syllables. Some of the worksheets include opportunities for students to replicate Chinese characters; directions are included.

*Craftivity: Includes directions and template for creating a Chinese New Year lantern with Chinese characters and the rooster (the Chinese Zodiac animal of 2017)

*Chinese New Year movement activity: (25 printable color Chinese Zodiac animals with movement directions on each, 25 printable black and white Chinese Zodiac animals with movement directions on each, SMART board file with embedded Chinese music, appropriate for grades 1-5 as a way to improve movement skills, literacy skills, and provide a brain break!)

*Chinese New Year Bulletin Board: Includes sample visuals for two different bulletin boards--one with Chinese New Year traditions and Chinese Zodiac animals, and one with Chinese traditional instruments, with visuals and descriptions for eight different instruments.

*Where in the World, Chinese New Year edition: This is a great way to integrate geography/ social studies into your lessons! Includes questions and visuals about China, Taiwan, Philippines, and San Francisco, CA.

*Mini-lesson for the book "Dragon Dancing," including opportunities for vocal exploration and movement

*Chinese New Year Rhythm Flashcards: 8 flashcards for each of the following rhythms: ta and ti-ti, quarter rest, tika-tika, half note, ti-tika, tika-ti, syncopa, tim-ka, and tam-ti
