Product Description
This collection includes 33 poems and 58 songs to use as instructional tools for beginning readers. Each text is included with 1.25 inch margins for insertion in a 3-prong folder or 3-ring binder. They are also included with a border and without for those who wish to leave more room for student illustrations. Ideas for teaching with songs and poems are included. Please view the preview for a complete list of all of the poems and songs included.

Why use songs and poetry?

1. The melody and rhythm make them easy to learn and easy to remember. This helps with memorization of sight words.
2. Songs and poems are embedded with rhyme, assonance, and alliteration. Playing with language is essential for the development of phonemic awareness.
3. Songs and poems lend themselves to repeated readings and they require readers to attend to prosody. This is great for building fluency.
4. Songs and poems are a natural way to get children paying attention to rhyme, learn to read longer texts and let’s just admit that they are just plain fun.
