A two page resource (can be photocopied back to back and laminated for repeated use) on the artist and designer Sonia Delaunay.
Can be used as a cover lesson during a relevant project (colour, pattern, abstraction, design, shapes, movement, Orphism, Cubism, Op Art...), an extension activity, or as a whole class task. Students are asked to read the information about the artist then answer questions, then show their visual understanding through the creation of a three dimensional coloured-paper collage of their own.
The lesson requires minimal materials (coloured paper, glue, scissors, and either compasses or cylindrical objects of different sizes to draw around - e.g. glue sticks, paper cups, sellotapes) and can be carried out in a non-specialist classroom.
A fun and different way to look at an important artist and designer from the 20th century! Resulting artwork makes a great display too.
