Guide your students through one of Shakespeare's most recognizable sonnets!
Download includes both a PDF and Mac pages version of the following:
- detailed lesson plan, tied to standards with helpful hints
- in depth writing prompt
- graphic organizer
- detailed rubric, tied to ELA CC standards
Students will first work on a CLOSE reading of the poem (you will need your own edition) where they identify theme, tone, shifts, similes, metaphors, personification, allusion, and hyperbole.
Then students will complete a graphic organizer to assist in their analysis of the poem -- what figurative language is used and why the author chose to include it --- plus the overall effect on the text.
Finally, students will write -- and you'll have the rubric to grade them!
This is a perfect companion to my lesson on Pablo Neruda's poem "Ode to My Socks" -- purchase both and use one as a model with the class and have them complete one on their own to assess overall understanding!
