This activity will help students understand Shakespeare and the English sonnet. First, they study the prologue to Romeo and Juliet (a sonnet). After learning the rules of a sonnet, students get to write their own sonnet using the graphic organizer. The graphic organizer helps students to write in iambic pentameter, follow the correct rhyme scheme, and even divides the poem into three quatrains and a couplet. This is a great activity to use while teaching Romeo and Juliet or any play from Shakespeare.
