In this highly-engaging Sons of Liberty activity, students examine a variety of documents to develop an opinion on the role of the Sons of Liberty in the founding of the United States. Particularly, students will develop an opinion on the question "Were the Sons of Liberty Patriots or Terrorists?"
Students examine three documents and complete a variety of analytical questions that force them to evaluate the actions of America's first rebel group. The activity culminates in a Socratic Seminar that guarantees to produce an active and lively debate!
This can be completed as three separate homework assignments or in-class activities. Also, this activity makes for an excellent in-class debate. No matter how you do it, this activity fully meets the expectations in the new Common Core ELA standards!
