Enjoy freedom from lesson planning by downloading Literature-Based Language Lessons for the book, Sophie’s Masterpiece. All you need to do is check your library for this wonderful book about an artistic spider. (Spoiler alert: the spider dies at the end of the book, so it may not be appropriate for your youngest students.) This unit covers a range of language skills, so you can find something for all of your elementary language groups. You choose the activities that best meet the needs of your students.
Literature-Based Language Lessons for Sophie’s Masterpiece include:
4 listening comprehension activities as well as a detailed Read Aloud Guide and data collection form;
3 activities for narrative skills including a picture sequence for retell, homework, and a rubric for assessing story retells;
4 pragmatic activities that focus on conversational turn-taking, perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and feelings;
