In this fun sentence sorting game, students work to develop the following skill: “Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking; Produce and expand complete simple and compound declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory sentences.”
.Give each student participating a copy of the “Sort the Sentences” sheet.
.Place all sentence cards facedown. Have each student choose one card.
.Have the student read the card and determine whether the sentence is a statement, question, command, or exclamation.
.Have the student write the number on the card in the appropriate space on the “Sort the Sentences” sheet.
.Repeat until all cards have been used. Shuffle cards and repeat as necessary.
.Have students write 4 sentences (one of each type) on the back of the “Sort the Sentences” sheet.
