This activity is helpful when teaching children to sort and identify objects and how they fit in certain categories. It also helps to identify that one object can fit into more than one category (i.e. a “whale” is an animal AND it can be found in the ocean).
I recommend laminating all of the worksheets in this document, and cutting both the category lists and the objects along the dotted lines.
After cutting out the category lists and the objects, put a few long strips of Velcro on each category list, and the opposite side of the Velcro on the back of each object.
Read and present the category list to the child and give them about 8-10 object options to chose from.
Help them to problem solve which objects go in the category in front of them.
Remove the objects from the category list after you’re done working with each category since many objects can fit in multiple categories and can be reused.
