A phonogram is a letter or combination of letters that represent a sound. This set of printable flashcards and word lists introduces the child to 19 key sounds and the various ways to spell each sound. A word list for reading practice accompanies each spelling.
The 19 sounds introduced include: ai, ee, ie, oa, ue, ow, oy, er, aw, or, ar, e as in red, oo as in book, f, tion, j, g, s, n.
Also included are instructions for presenting the cards, as well as extension activities. Sorting activities and the use of the movable alphabet engage the child's hands and extend this lesson over many weeks.
Every English word gives us some phonetic information, and knowing these 19 keys sounds and their various spellings will advance the child's reading skills, as well as aid her spelling.
Print on card stock, laminate, and use a paper cutter to separate the individual cards.
