This is something I created to supplement the biography study I do with second grade. It's five sorts in one! After your lesson on biographies and reading an example to students, this is a great way to reinforce library skills, including what a biography is and how to find it in the library!
*Print and laminate each page for durability (books and shelves)
Activity One: Students use the shelves and front facing books with titles to sort into biography, fiction, and nonfiction sections.
Activity Two: Students use the side facing books and sort into biography, fiction, and nonfiction sections by the call number.
Activity Three: Combine books for a larger sort for students.
Activity Four: Given titles, students create call numbers for each, writing them in dry erase marker on the back of the books. Wipe off when checked by the teacher.
Activity Five: Students put the books on the shelves, then put them in numerical and alphabetical order by the call number.
