This can be used as a review, but I use it for a performance task for our unit on Sorting and Patterning. Students are asked to create a pattern border using two changing attributes. They need to fill in the blanks to tell which two attributes they've changed (color, shape, size, position). You can ask students to circle the pattern core as well. Then, using the Venn diagram, students must draw two shapes that would fit in each section.
This assessment is aligned with the Ontario Math curriculum in Data Management (sorting) and Patterning. It also aligns with the first unit in the Grade 2 Math Makes Sense resource.
