These questions should be used as a lesson opener or a hook to gage your student’s prior knowledge of sorting by color, shape, size or kind. It can also be used to refresh their memory of concepts learned earlier in the unit. It is a great way to prep for standardized tests by teaching them how to eliminate possible answers and how to use different strategies to find the answer to the given question.
Whole Group (5minutes)
-Project the slide on the board
-Read the question
-Read the possible answers
-Have students think-pair-share what they believe the answer is and why (you can let them use their white boards, manipulatives, or scratch paper to figure out the answer if necessary
-Pick a student to bubble in the correct answer and explain how they came to that conclusion
*Optional: Print out a copy for each student to complete it at their desk independently before asking them to come back to the carpet for the whole group discussion.
