Description

Three captivating activities that make sharing science in class or at home nearly effortless. Cheap Chimes introduces sound is vibration, Cup Phones challenges students to try a variety of ways to hear what's whispered through string, and Reverse Pitch demonstrates how sound changes from high to low or low to high depending on what your vibrating. You just need string, a few plastic cups, a spoon, and a glass bottle of water – items found in most homes!

I pulled three Distance Learning products apart and reformatted them so you can print the worksheets or use EASEL by TPT to annotate it easily. The tool makes it possible to customize the resource just for your students.

To save you some time I set up the resources with text boxes you can download for use in your classroom or choose a pdf file you can use any way you like!

Plan and conduct investigations to provide evidence that vibrating materials can make sound and that sound can make materials vibrate. Examples of vibrating materials that make sound could include tuning forks and plucking a stretched string. Examples of how sound can make matter vibrate could include holding a piece of paper near a speaker making sound and holding an object near a vibrating tuning fork.
NGSS1-PS4-4
Use tools and materials to design and build a device that uses light or sound to solve the problem of communicating over a distance. Examples of devices could include a light source to send signals, paper cup and string "telephones," and a pattern of drum beats. Assessment does not include technological details for how communication devices work.
