Sound Boxes are a great way for students to hear in their heads the amount of sounds a word has. This is a great tool for students to use as they place the letters in each box.
For example, the word cat would go in the row with three boxes. One letter per box. C in the first box. A in the second box. T in the third box.
The word cube would go in the row with three boxes as well. C in the first box. U in the second box. BE in the third box. The E tags along with the B because it is silent in that case.
It is important to note that each box has one sound in it. Each box DOES NOT have to have to have one letter - they can become a pair if needed.
