**Sound Boxes Bundle brings you my most popular Phoneme Segmentation Activity - my students absolutely love this!**
Sound Boxes is a great phoneme segmentation activity. Phoneme segmentation is a technique for building phonemic awareness in which students break words into sounds- - saying each sound separately as they stretch out the word. For example the teacher asks, “How many sounds are there in the word cat?” The students says, “/c/ /a/ /t/ ... 3 sounds.”
Included are 68 Sound Box cards with two, three, and four sound box pictures.
While using Sound Boxes the student identifies the picture and then fills in each sound box as they state the sound each sound within the word. After filling in each sound box they blend the word back together. The sound boxes can be filled with erasers, pennies, gems, etc. For those students who are on or above level you can have them write in the letter(s) that belong in each corresponding sound box.
After practicing in a small group setting this would be a great Literacy Center activity.
