Just Updated.... Bossy R was added 3/22 (12 pages)
I love using sound boxes to teach my students to carefully look at every sound in a word. They are a great tool for reading and spelling. Answer key is provided at the end.
Use the colored pages to teach your small group. Laminate and cut them apart. Pass a card out to each student. Have them talk about what they think should go in each box. Have them use dry erase markers or vis-a-vis to work on this skill.
This set is structured from simple to complex, starting with cvc short vowel words, bossy r words and continuing through consonant digraphs. I used final digraphs because so many initial digraph words involved difficult spelling rules that my students aren’t quite ready for at this point.
After you have worked on the skill in your small group, you can use the worksheets to assess. I tried to use different graphics whenever possible for the assessments, but sometimes I couldn’t find any new pictures. I will continue looking and change these out as I find new ones.
These are also great for vocabulary building for ESL students.
Skills covered in this product:
