Have your students carefully listening and classifying sounds as loud or soft, high pitched or low pitched as they drop common objects on a desk top. The science process skill of classifying is critical for the understanding of later more complicated classification systems. Teacher instructions, scoring rubric, recording page, Science Notes, and an Extended Thinking activity are included in this lesson.
The basic lesson is included in the book Rising to the Challenge of the National Science Education Standards, also sold on this website. This is lesson three in a packet of nine process skill lessons on sound that will be available on this website.
