Support students as they build phonemic awareness with Sound Slides! Help students hear the initial, medial, and final sounds in words with a visual anchor. Support tactile learners as you and students point to the sounds while sliding through a word. Model for students how to use (with the large teacher version) and then release students to say aloud and blend orally (with smaller student-sized version). Sounds Slides support students in differentiating sounds in various positions of words. Use sound slides as an engaging phonemic awareness warm-up activity when introducing new sound-spelling relationships in phonics instruction.
Use these during guided reading, taping to your guided reading table as a tool for students to refer to. Use alongside word building routines. Use during whole group shared reading/phonics lessons. Use on student desks as an independent tool.
2 main tasks with Sound Slides:
Oral blending: blend sounds of a word orally as students slide their fingers under the beginning, middle, and ending positions
Oral segmentation: help students separate sounds of words, making it easier to distinguish individual sounds
Can also be used alongside phonics word building activities…my own struggling readers use this atop their word building mats!
