This set of worksheets will help young students learn to identify sounds in words by sorting pictures into sound categories.
These worksheets are part of a larger set of A to Z worksheets, which you can get at a discounted rate when you purchase them together from the following link: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/156-Alphabet-Worksheets
For each letter of the alphabet, you will find two types of picture/sound sort worksheets:
1. The standard version is suitable for students who are just learning their letters and sounds. These worksheets ask students to sort pictures into simpler letter sound categories. For example, the letter Aa sound/picture sort worksheet requires students to sort pictures by those that begin with H and those that begin with A.
2. The challenge version is more appropriate for students who know most or all their basic letter sounds and have started to explore more advanced concepts such as blends, digraphs, long and short vowel sounds, word families, and similar sounding letters. For example, the challenge Gg worksheet requires students to sort pictures by those that begin with "gr-" and those that begin with "gl-".
A side note: Research indicates that many orders of letter introduction and instruction are effective. However, if your letter instruction is based upon the Houghton Mifflin Alphafriends letters' order of introduction, the standard letter/sound sorts in this set will also incorporate a review of recent weeks' focus letters/sounds. The Alphafriends letters' order is as follows:
S, M, R, T, B, N, H, A, V, C, P, G, F, L, I, K, Q, D, Z, O, X, W, E, Y, J, and U
P.S. I value constructive feedback and new followers!
