This is an fun phonics game students can play at independent centers (groups of 2 or 3). Prep: Copy on cardstock and laminate (sheet protectors work fine). Copy cards on cardstock and cut. Each student begins with a vowel picture card (long- a,e,i,o,u). Students take turns picking one card from the pile. Student reads the card aloud and determines whether their card has the same sound as the long vowel sound of their card. The object of the game is to find words in the pile that have the same sound with a different spelling pattern. For example: party-tree, tube-menu, sky-ice. If they have a word that matches their long vowel sound, the card is placed on top of one of the pictures on their card. If the sounds do not match, the card is placed in another pile.
